The Persian king Xerxes not sends back 50,000 Jews to Jerusalem to start Temple worship again, he funds the reconstruction and the daily sacrifices. It is always easier to give away what isn't yours. The next king, Artaxerxes, stops funding the purchase of animals for the morning and evening sacrifices at the Temple. Now the folks have to step up. How will they adjust to actually giving themselves?
