We're excited to get to know you! We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating, and walking into a new church can be nerve-racking. We want to help make your first experience at Hope Commons Church a great one!

Hope Commons Church is a place where people can meet Jesus, engage in life-giving community, and everyone is welcome. We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts and use them for God's glory.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

We sing together.

The band kicks off every service with upbeat, modern music with the words projected on a screen for people to sing along. If you don’t want to stand or sing, that’s completely fine – feel free to just listen!

We teach through books of the Bible.

We like to tell the stories of the Bible. We tell them within the cultural, historical and geopolitical context of the story. Then we talk about how this story is calling us to live and the impact that makes. We are challenged to grow and change. It is always an encouraging and hope-filled message!

We take communion together.

Each week we take a moment in every service to respond to God’s grace in our lives by reminding ourselves that we all come to the Kingdom of God the same way – as people saved by an incredible God and His sacrificial and saving grace. This is an open communion for everyone who is a follower of Jesus!

We take an offering.

Don’t worry! We actually ask guests not to give! This is an opportunity for our regular attenders to fuel the mission of the Kingdom of God. We also sing a song or two at the end during this time.

KIDS ZONE

We believe that kids should have a blast at church every single week – and at Hope Commons Church, we make this a priority. The other thing we make a priority is your children’s safety. Because of that, we have a simple check-in process for our Kids Zone program the first time you visit. You’ll want to leave yourself an extra five minutes to get signed in for the Kids Zone experience. Look for the table in the lobby inviting first time guests to a check-in station that is specifically staffed for first time guests! The Hope Commons Church Kids Zone is offered every service for kids ages Infant through Grade 5.

You may also feel free to keep your kiddos in the sanctuary with you. We believe that every service ought to be accessible and relatable to every middle school and high school student. Therefore, we work hard to keep our services inviting for students as well as adults.

Kids are so important to the kingdom of God, and we love having them around!

Ron Zimmer

Lead Pastor

Ron came to Chico in 2002 to join lead the staff at Hope Commons. Ron loves live music, has two grown daughters in town and lives to make the Bible accessible to everyone.

Mario Yanes

Youth Pastor

Mario grew up in Chico and came to Hope Commons for the first time at 8 years old! He is a husband and father, complete Star Wars nerd, UCSB grad and is currently back in school studying to make ministry his lifelong vocation.

Martin Muphy

Recovery Pastor

Martin leads Serenity, our 12 Step group that meets on Mondays. You will also see Martin all over, as he is deeply involved with making Hope Commons work, including also in school studying to become a ordained pastor.
